Stuffed Tofu with Mushroom Sauce


What you need:
For the filling:
– 1/2 chicken breast, minced (instead of chicken breast, you can also use minced pork)
– salt and black pepper
– five spice powder
– 2 tsp light soy sauce
– 1 tsp corn flour
– 1/2 tsp minced garlic
– 2 tsp chopped fresh chives
– 1/8 cup finely chopped carrots
– 1/8 cup finely chopped white onion

For the mushroom sauce:
– 2 shiitake mushrooms, soaked and thinly sliced
– 1 tsp minced garlic
– 1/2 cup water
– 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 4 tsp water
– 1/2 tbsp sweet soy sauce
– 1/4 cup oyster sauce
– 2 tbsp light soy sauce
– 1/8 cup chopped fresh coriander

– 4 cubes of tofu

Sprinkle the minced chicken breast with some salt, pepper, and five spice powder. Add the cornstarch, light soy sauce, minced garlic, and chopped chives. Mix them all together and set aside.

Sauté the carrots and white onion in some light olive oil then add the marinated chicken breast. Cook for 2 minutes and set aside.

Using a round tablespoon, make a hole in the middle of the tofu. Fill the hole with the cooked filling.


Preheat the air fryer to 200 degrees Celsius. Cook the stuffed tofu for 10 minutes. The tofu might stick on the bottom. It would be great if you have a small bendable flat spatula to help you take the tofu out without breaking them.

For the sauce, sauté the minced garlic in some light olive oil. Add the sliced mushrooms and stir fry for a minute. Add the oyster sauce, light soy sauce, and sweet soy sauce. Then add the water. Add the cornstarch mixture when the sauce is semi-boiling. Add the chopped coriander and give it a stir.

Place the fried stuffed tofu on a plate and pour the mushroom sauce. Finally, garnish with some fresh coriander and chopped chives.
